Sea glass, also called beach glass, is refuse glass that has been tossed into the ocean and, over time, has had its rough edges rounded and its surface frosted. The glass could be from bottles, tableware, objects of art, and so forth. Anything made of glass that has been thrown out because it has out-lived its usefulness can become sea glass.
Locations where sea glass could be found are old town dumps located near the ocean, coastline areas where people congregated for recreation, and areas where sea glass would collect from ships that tossed their refuse overboard.
Not all sea glass is found along ocean coastlines. Some bodies of water that are large enough to have significant surf, such as Lake Erie, can be a source of sea glass. This glass is generally termed beach glass by the locals as it hasn't been found near the sea but rather along the beaches around such bodies of water.
